Inzamam-ul-Haq is likely to become Pakistan team’s chief selector. The former Pakistan captain was previously attached to the position from 2016 till 2019.

A source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that Inzamam has already given his consent in becoming a chief selector again. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether team director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn will continue to remain a part of the national selection committee.

Inzamam likely to re-join selection committee

Several recent reports are indicating that Inzamam-ul-Haq might return to Pakistan’s selection set-up as the chief selector. The former cricketer was previously appointed as the chief selector in 2016 while his tenure ended in 2019. During the period, he worked alongside then head coach Mickey Arthur, who helmed Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy win where they upstaged tournament favourites India in the final.

Furthermore, a committee appointed by the PCB, featuring Misbah-ul-Haq, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing if the new selection committee would include Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn. While speaking with the PTI, the source said:

“The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing the new selection committee and it is yet to be decided whether Arthur and Bradburn should remain members on it.”

Meanwhile, the committee will also seek current captain Babar Azam’s opinion about team director’s and head coach’s fate in the selection committee.

“Once Babar’s views are taken, the Cricket Technical Committee will also finalize its recommendation for the Chairman.”

If Inzamam-ul-Haq takes over as new chief selector, one of his earliest assignments would be to shape up a Pakistan squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The tournament is slated to be played between October and November this year.
