On Monday, December 30, Australia scripted a historic win against India as they beat the visitors by 184 runs in the Melbourne Test to lead the series 2-1. The defeat has come as a massive blow to India's chances to qualify for WTC 2025 final.

Soon after the conclusion of the match, the ICC updated the WTC table and India have dropped to 52.78 PCT. Although, they are still third on the points table, but the gap has increased with Australia as the baggy greens are placed second the table with 61.46 PCT.

It is worth noting that South Africa have already qualified for WTC final after win over Pakistan in the first Test. Meanwhile, India have just one Test remaining in the current WTC cycle which is the fifth Test vs Australia at the SCG.

India Crash Out Of WTC 2025 Final Race

India also suffered a defeat in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that saw them crash out of WTC 2025 final race. The visitors lost the series 1-3 and now Australia have set up a final with South Africa that will take place at Lord's from June 11-15.

For the first time in three cycles, India will not play a WTC final as they finished as runners-up in the first two editions. The Rohit Sharma-led side are expected to undergo changes for the next cycle which begins in second half of 2025 when India tour England for a five-match Test series.
