After BCCI framed the window for IPL 2025 starting from March 14, recent reports reveal that the Women's Premier League (WPL) is tentatively scheduled to start ahead of the IPL. WPL is expected to take place over a month, likely between February 6 and March 9, 2025.
Although the precise dates and schedule are still being finalized, as per a report from Cricbuzz, the BCCI has communicated the tentative start date to the franchises.
WPL 2025: Lucknow-Ahmedabad Likely To Be Host-City
The BCCI is yet to finalize the venues for WPL matches. The locations are still up in the air, but as per the reports, it seems like Lucknow and Ahmedabad are in the lead to host.
Initially, it was thought that Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru would be the go-to spots since they have their own franchises. But, turns out, with Mumbai's packed cricket schedule and Bengaluru and Delhi's weather conditions, those cities might not be the best fit this time around.
Now, Ahmedabad is throwing its hat in the ring with the massive Narendra Modi Stadium, but there’s a little doubt about whether it’ll be available for the whole tournament. Leaving them aside, only, Lucknow seems to be a potential contender to host.
Additionally, the BCCI aims to schedule the WPL final of the third season between March 7 and 9, which will allow for a brief gap before the start of the IPL season on March 14.
For the unaware, the tournament will include five teams competing in a round-robin format featuring 22 matches. Notably, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will kick off the tournament as the defending champions.
