On Friday, Litton Das led Bangladesh to a historic victory over the West Indies, winning the third and final T20I by 80 runs at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown. This win not only secured the series 3-0 but also marked the first time Bangladesh swept the West Indies in T20Is in over two decades.
Following this milestone, Litton Das expressed his readiness to take on the role of full-time captain if offered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
"As far as captaincy is concerned, if the BCB asks me to lead then I am ready to do it because there is no reason [not to] and I am enjoying it," Litton told reporters.
"I take a lot of decisions on the field from the experience that I have got playing for so long and the skill that the bowlers developed it is easier to run the show on the field," he added.
Litton Das had previously captained Bangladesh but was removed from the role. He returned as a stand-in captain during this series, stepping in for Najmul Hossain, who missed the tour due to injury. While Mehidy Hasan Miraz currently leads the ODI and Test sides, the BCB handed the T20I captaincy back to Litton, a decision that paid off as Bangladesh achieved a clean sweep in the series.
Najmul Hossain's inconsistent form in T20Is and his earlier reluctance to captain the side have raised questions about the long-term leadership in the format. Although Najmul later agreed to lead in ODIs, an injury sidelined him during the Afghanistan series, leaving the door open for Litton to prove his worth.
Bangladesh Beat West Indies By 80 Runs
Talking about the match, visitors batting was spearheaded by Jaker Ali, who smashed an unbeaten 72 off 41 balls. His fiery innings included three boundaries and six sixes, propelling the team to 189/7—their highest T20I score on West Indies soil. Despite an early run-out scare, Jaker returned to the crease and punished the West Indies bowlers, particularly in the final over where Alzarri Joseph conceded 25 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon also contributed with a brisk 39 off 21 balls.
On the bowling front, Rishad Hossain delivered a stellar performance, claiming three wickets for just 21 runs. Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan added two wickets each, while Hasan Mahmud and Tanzim Hasan Sakib took one apiece. The West Indies were bowled out for a mere 109 in 16.4 overs, marking their lowest-ever T20I total against Bangladesh.
