Massive news from Down Under is that the newly appointed International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Jay Shah, has arrived in Brisbane ahead of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India, which will take place at Woolloongabba from 14th December.
Apart from Shah, the interim Board of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, will also be present as both are expected to attend the high-octane Test between the two sides in the race for the World Test Championship (WTC).
Jay, who started his term as the ICC chairman on 1st December, will witness an India game for the first time as the head of the global cricketing body. Previously, he was the BCCI secretary, but Saikia has now filled his vacant spot on an interim basis.
It is also being reported that the two have arrived in Brisbane not just to attend the game but also for some crucial meetings that will take place in the forthcoming days. To the unversed, Brisbane is all set to host the Summer Olympics of 2032, with cricket widely expected to be an integral part of the multi-national event.
BGT Levelled As India-Australia Look To Gain Crucial WTC Points
With so much at stake during the third BGT Test at Gabba, both India and Australia would want to turn the fortune in their favour and move up the charts on the WTC points table, which South Africa currently dominates.
A loss for either side would put their chances of progressing through to the finale at Lord's in June in jeopardy, with limited matches remaining. India, currently placed third on the table, would have to win at least two out of the remaining three games to raise a claim for the top two spots.
