The mystery around Mohammed Shami's participation in the Border Gavaskar Trophy continues to attract lot of attention and he might still make it to Australia later in the tournament. However, it is certain that he will miss the third Test at the Gabba that is scheduled to start on Saturday, 14th of December according to a report from Indian Express.

Mohammed Shami featured in the Quarterfinal game between Baroda and Bengal of SMAT 2024 on Wednesday, and it has ruled out the possibility of him taking the flight Down Under before the Gabba Test.

Recently, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stated that the door is open for Mohammed Shami, but also revealed that the pacer again suffered with swollen knee while playing in SMAT. He has picked 11 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 7.86 and at a strike rate of just 19. So, he shown good fitness and even bowled over 40 overs in a Ranji game, showcasing his hunger and passion to again play for India.

Team India Takes Cautious Route For Shami

Mohammed Shami last played for India in the 2023 World Cup and was India's most successful bowler in that tournament. In February 2024, he underwent a surgery to repair his Achilles Tendon and since has been working hard at NCA to get fully fit for international cricket.

Earlier, there were hopes that he would be fit before BGT, but he could not make it in time. The Indian management is taking cautious route as Shami has been injury-prone right throughout his career and there have been various remarks where Indian players and support staff have stated that they don't want to rush Shami and then aggravate his injury.
