Ace Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has had a torrid journey in international cricket of late. The experienced cricketer sustained an unfortunate ankle injury during India's World Cup clash against Bangladesh and hasn't played competitive cricket since then. As per the latest reports doing rounds on social media, Pandya hasn't recovered from the injury and will miss the Afghanistan T20Is.
Furthermore, the ankle injury has jeopardised Pandya's chances of featuring in the IPL 2024, where he was supposed to lead five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, a report in The Economic Times has dropped an encouraging update for Mumbai Indians, quashing the rumours of Pandya being sidelined for the upcoming IPL season. The report has claimed that the Baroda all-rounder is progressing well and participating in the training sessions. Therefore, as per a source close to the MI camp, it will be too soon to sideline him from the IPL 2024.
Pandya has had an outstanding IPL career, emerging as a match-winner with bat and ball for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. After being released by MI, the all-rounder led the Titans to the coveted IPL title through his astute leadership in the 2022 season. He also guided GT to the IPL 2023 final where they lost to eventual champions Chennai Super Kings in a nerve-wrecker in Ahmedabad.
