Young Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi was sold to MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings in the recently held IPL 2024 mini-auction. Rizvi, who had a memorable campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, amassing 277 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 139.89, was bought by the five-time champions for a whopping amount of INR 8.40 Crores.
Meanwhile, the youngster has opened up on his inspirational journey ahead of the IPL 2024. In a video released by CSK's social media team, Rizvi reflected on his long-standing relationship with cricket.
In the first half of the video, the right-handed batting prodigy remembered his childhood when he used to play with a cleaning peddle. Then, he went on to disclose how his maternal uncle fine-tuned his skills, guiding him as a coach in his academy.
He also shed light on his U-14 playing days when he smashed a century on his debut before eventually earning a call-up to India's under-19 World Cup squad based on his performances for the u-16 side.
Overall, in nine T20 innings, Rizvi has scored 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70. Considering his potential, it won't be surprising if CSK includes him in their playing XI to fill Ambati Rayudu's void in their star-studded middle order.
