At the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, rain had interrupted proceedings, delaying the toss for the 39th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 between Papua New Guinea and New Zealand on June 17.

Just as the captains and match referee were poised for the toss, the rain made its presence felt, halting the proceedings.

Both teams, out of contention for the tournament, vie for pride. New Zealand's campaign faltered early with defeats to the West Indies and Afghanistan, though they salvaged a win against Uganda.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea sits at the bottom of the table, nursing losses in all three encounters, including a defeat to Afghanistan. Despite daunting odds, Assad Vala's squad aims to showcase their best against the Black Caps.
