In a significant development for Indian cricket fans, star players Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan are set to return home after the group stages of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Both players, currently serving as traveling reserves, will likely depart following India’s match against Canada on June 15 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Gill & Avesh To Return Home

Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan were included as traveling reserves by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to logistical challenges in sending replacements from India to the US or the Caribbean promptly.

Their role was crucial for the US leg of the tournament, ensuring immediate backup in case of any unforeseen injuries to key players.

The two took a chartered flight with the squad, which was arranged for the Indian and USA teams, from New York to Fort Lauderdale following their Wednesday night match at Nassau County International Stadium on Long Island.

Gill and Avesh are important reserves, but they are unlikely to play past the US leg. The team is anticipated to depend more on spinners in the Caribbean leg due to the current unfavorable weather in Florida.

Additionally, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the third opener, is already in the squad, reducing the need for Gill’s presence.

Other reserves, including Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, may continue with the squad and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, for the Super 8 games starting on June 20.

The subsequent matches will be in Antigua and St Lucia, with the semifinals scheduled in Georgetown, Guyana, and the final in Bridgetown.
