Yashasvi Jaiswal is a superstar of the game and has cemented his place in the India Test and T20I team with his stellar performances. However, the talented southpaw is yet to make his ODI Debut for Team India.
In the ongoing Perth Test against Australia, Jaiswal scored a duck in the first innings and looked out of sorts. However, the youngster quickly bounced back in the second innings and scored a scintillating ton to stun the Aussie team.
This was Jaiswal's fourth Test century and his first Vs Australia in his maiden Test match, Down Under. He is already touted to replace Virat Kohli as the next 'King' in Tests, but it is the ODIs where he is yet to crack the code.
Why Jaiswal is not in the ODI squad?
Out of all the three formats (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), India have a settled squad in the ODI format. Every player knows their role and the team is already well balanced. They reached the finals of the World Cup 2023, but lost to Australia. However, despite the loss, the team remains one of the best in the world.
This is the main reason why Jaiswal is yet to make his debut in the ODIs. The team is filled with superstar players and there is no room for another addition. Jaiswal is an opener, and in the ODIs, the team already has Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who are doing perfectly fine at the moment.
Plus, due to the emergence of T20Is, ODI cricket has taken a back seat and not too many ODI matches are being played these days. However, with the 2027 World Cup in mind, India will play a lot more ODIs in 2025, 2026 and Jaiswal will be in the scheme of things as both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are getting older.
