India's experienced batter KL Rahul missed out on a well-deserved century, as ace Australian pacer Mitchell Starc dismissed him, drawing the first blood for Australia on day 3 of the ongoing Perth Test. Opening the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahul contributed 77 runs to the Indian total before Starc got rid of him with a beauty.
The incident occurred during the 63rd over of the Indian innings when Australia were searching for the first wicket. The hosts desperately needed someone to break the mammoth opening stand between Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Mitchell Starc once again emerged as the saviour for Australia, getting Rahul's prized scalp at a crucial juncture.
From around the wicket, Starc bowled a full-length ball that shaped away after pitching around the off stump.
As the ball was angled into Rahul, the Indian batter was drawn into a false shot, edging the ball straight to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. This was a fast bowling masterclass from Mitchell Starc, as his artistry reminded fans of legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram.
Jaiswal's Century Powers India To A Commanding Total
Although KL Rahul got out for 77, his opening partner Jaiswal completed a sparkling century with the help of a magnificent upper-cut. The southpaw has looked sublime in the middle, dominating the Australian bowlers on Perth's seam-friendly pitch. Riding on Jaiswal and Rahul's valiant opening partnership, India were comfortably placed at 215 for one at the time of writing. While Jaiswal was unbeaten on 110, Devdutt Padikkal was batting on 3*.
