Who Is Sitanshu Kotak? Newest Frontrunner To Be In Gautam Gambhir's India Coaching Staff

In latest news, Sitanshu Kotak is in line to be appointed as India's batting coach alongside assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, Ryan Ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip. It has been understood that India's head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was previously averted to the idea of having a batting coach, is in fact in agreement of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decision.

The BCCI is seriously exploring the possibility of appointing former domestic stalwart after India's horrific outing against New Zealand at home and then against Australia in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. A focal point in India's losses was there batting line-up, and hence, BCCI is looking to appoint a specialist in the batting department.

Moreover, the role of support staff was discussed in the review meeting in Mumbai on January 11 which was attended by new BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia along with Gautam Gambhir and India's Test and ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma.

Who is Sitanshu Kotak?

Sitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak is a former Indian cricketer and an accomplished coach. Sitanshu was born on 19 October 1972 in Rajkot, Gujarat. He has played mainly as a left-handed batter primarily for Saurashtra in domestic cricket. He played for the team from 1992-93 to 2013. 

In his entire career of 21 years, Kotak has scored 8,061 runs in 130 first-class games with an impressive average of 41.76, including 15 centuries and 55 half-centuries. Apart from this, he has also contributed to the ball and has taken 70 wickets in first-class cricket.

Sitanshu Kotak As Head Coach

Post his retirement in 2013, Kotak moved on to coaching. He has taken giant strides in the domestic coaching setup. He was the head coach of Saurashtra, which won the 2020 Ranji Trophy final. His coaching skills were again recognized when he was appointed the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. 

Kotak has also been the head coach of the India A team, leading the team on tours to Bangladesh, South Africa, and Australia. Besides that, in the 2017 IPL season, he was an assistant coach for the defunct Gujarat Lions franchise.
