Gambhir reportedly accused Sarfaraz Khan of leaking sensitive information from the Indian dressing room during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Khan, despite a standout performance in the previous series—scoring 150 against New Zealand—was left out of the playing XI for the series against Australia. News24 Sports reported that the disappointed Gambhir vented his feelings at the review meeting in Mumbai and claimed that Khan shared the details regarding the agitated head coach following India's heavy defeat in the fourth Test match at Melbourne.
Sarfaraz Khan's Controversial History
While Sarfaraz Khan's batting talent has never been doubted, his career has been associated with controversies. He faced his first setback in 2011 when a school team accused him of age fraud. His bone test didn't match the date of birth registered with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). However, the MCA cleared him after a subsequent test, the incident affected his mental health, forcing him to seek help from a psychologist.
BCCI Expelled Sarfaraz For Disciplinary Reasons
Later in 2012, when things seemed to be settling down for Sarfaraz Khan as he was included in the prestigious Wisden Cricketers' Almanack and sent on a month-long stint with Hull Cricket Club in Yorkshire. Another hiccup awaited his career when he was expelled from a BCCI batting camp at Bandra Kurla Complex for disciplinary reasons.
In 2015, Khan's career hit another low when he and Suryakumar Yadav were dropped from the Mumbai team for making inappropriate gestures towards MCA officials after a U-19 semi-final win. Their match fees were withheld for two years as punishment, further tarnishing Khan's image.
Now, as the “Gambhir-Mr. Fix-it” saga unfolds, Sarfaraz Khan’s controversial past once again seems to overpower his gigantic talents as a cricketer.
