Fortune Barishal’s very own Mahmudullah Riyad showed everyone why he’s still a force to reckon with, even at 38, during Match 21 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 against Dhaka Capitals in Chattogram. The veteran lit up the game with a catch that could easily be tagged as one of the best of the tournament.
Mahmudullah’s Takes A Blinder
It all unfolded in the sixth over when Faheem Ashraf bowled a sharp short ball outside off to Munim Shahriar. The Dhaka batter, caught off guard by the pace, tried to pull but only managed a top edge.
The ball ballooned high towards deep third man. Enter Mahmudullah. The experienced all-rounder charged in from the deep, dived forward like a man on a mission, and snatched a stunner inches off the ground. Shahriar had to walk back for a four-ball duck, while Mahmudullah proved once again why age is just a number.
His teammates couldn’t hold back their celebrations, and the crowd erupted, fully appreciating the masterclass from the evergreen Barishal star.
Dhaka Capitals Crumble Under Pressure
At the time of writing this article, Dhaka Capitals are in all sorts of trouble. After opting to bat first, they havee been reduced to 89/5 in 14 overs. Their top order has completely faltered, with key players like Litton Das, Shahriar, JP Kotze and Sabbir Rahman failing to make an impact. Even skipper Thisara Perera couldn’t hold the fort, leaving the lower order with a mountain to climb.
Tanzid Hasan tried to stabilize the innings with a fifty but he was dismissed after being set. Now, the responsibility lies with the lower order to drag their total to something respectable. Anything above 150 might give them a fighting chance, but Barishal’s bowlers will be eager to wrap things up quickly and restrict them to under 130.
