Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux has been ruled out of the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season owing to a knee injury. The cricketer played a crucial role in RCB’s title-winning run back in 2024, picking up 12 wickets in just 10 games at an average of 23.16.

The RCB Women’s franchise has now roped in England’s spin bowling all-rounder Charlie Dean as Molineux’s replacement.

Charlie Dean replaces Molineux in RCB

England all-rounder Charlie Dean is set to join the RCB Women’s franchise this WPL 2025 season as a replacement for star Australian cricketer Sophie Molineux. The franchise confirmed the development on Thursday, January 16 through a social media post.

Dean is a regular feature in England-based The Hundred competition. Playing for London Spirit since the tournament’s inaugural edition, the right-arm off-spinner has claimed 18 wickets so far at an economy rate of 7.28.

Moreover, the 24-year-old has also represented the English national team in 36 T20I matches. Having collected 46 wickets so far, Charlie Dean has maintained an impressive average of 18.19 at an economy of just 6.91.

RCB Women updates for WPL 2025

The RCB Women’s franchise retained several of its players for the WPL 2025 season back in late-2024. Senior opening batter Smriti Mandhana is set to continue as skipper, and she will be accompanied by the likes of Ellyse Perry, Shreyanka Patil, Richa Ghosh, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Sophie Devine among others.

Moreover, at the WPL 2025 auction, the RCB franchise made four new recruitments in the form of Prema Rawat, Raghvi Bist, Jagravi Pawar and Joshitha V J.

The WPL 2025 season is set to launch in early February, and will conclude in the first week of March. The BCCI is expected to unveil a detailed schedule of the tournament within the coming weeks.
