The wait is almost over, as after three years, Team India will play a Test series in England, marking the beginning of their journey in the WTC Cycle 2025-27. The team boasts a plethora of youngsters and a young captain hungry for success.

England tour has always been a tricky destination for the Indian team. The swinging condition of England possesses a different challenge for the Indian batters and things won't be different this time around. With the riveting battle set to commence in a few days, we look at India's results on their last 5 tours of England.

So near, yet so far in 2021

Led by India's finest Test captain, Virat Kohli, the Indian team embarked on the England journey in 2021, with the hopes of capturing the series. The first Test was a drawn affair since rain ruined India's chances of taking a lead in the series.

However, the team grabbed its chances in the Lord's Test, which is famous for Kohli's iconic, "60 overs of hell" line. The Asian side dominated the hosts and won the Test by a whopping margin of 151 runs. England came hard in the 3rd Test and thrashed India to level the series.

However, Team India showed their grit and determination as Rohit Sharma's scintillating century in the second innings, combined with a brilliant bowling effort helped the visitors take a lead in the series. The fifth game was postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak and was played in 2022 and the new-looked England side won the contest to level up the series, 2-2.

The one-man show in 2018

The 2018 series was the first time India toured England under Kohli's guidance. The team had some brilliant performances, particularly in the Trent Bridge Test, but apart from that it was a sorrowful state of affairs. The only shining light was Virat Kohli, who slammed 2 centuries on the tour but couldn't prevent India from losing the series, 1-4. For his outstanding performance, Sam Curran was adjudged Player of the Series.

Glimmer of hope at Lord's but batting led team down in 2014

In the 2014 tour of England, the Indian team was under the guidance of MS Dhoni. The first Test was a drawn affair and India showed their quality at Lord's as they decimated the hosts to take a lead in the series.

However, that was the last joy for Team India on that tour as their famed batting unit failed to deliver the goods. Star batter, Kohli had a horrendous tour and the openers also weren't able to score anything big. Ajinkya Rahane showed his class at Lord's but that was it from the batters as they lost the Test series, 1-3.

The series whitewash in 2011

India won the World Cup in 2011 and they toured England under MS Dhoni with tons of confidence. However, that confidence was shattered as England mauled the Asian giants to capture the series, 4-0. The team had an aging batting unit and only Rahul Dravid stood tall as he smacked 3 centuries on the tour but got no support from the other end.

Conquering England in 2007

In 2007, when India toured England under Rahul Dravid, hardly anyone gave them a chance to win the series but the team defied all odds and played some brilliant cricket to seal the series, 1-0.

The first Test at Lord's was a draw, courtesy of a great escape from MS Dhoni. India, however, sealed the win at Nottingham, before a draw at Kennington Oval confirmed their victory.
