Shpageeza Cricket League 2024 to begin from August 12 in Kabul (X.com)

The Shpageeza Cricket League, a prominent domestic T20 cricket tournament held in Afghanistan, is set to return for its ninth edition. Organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the league has played a crucial role in promoting cricket in Afghanistan and providing a platform for local talent to showcase their skills.

For the 2024 edition, ACB agreed on an August 12–August 25 window, as the original plan to host the event in September was shelved.

Having said that, the tournament will be played between five teams i.e. Speen Ghar Tigers, Band-e-Amir Dragons, Amo Sharks, Mis Ainak Knights, and Boost Defenders. The number of teams have been reduced from 8 to 5 this year to adjust the tournament to a smaller window.

Meanwhile, the tournament opener will be played between defending champions Speen Ghar Tigers, led by Rashid Khan, and Band-e-Amir Dragons, at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium. Kabul will host all 21 games to maintain uniformity for the fans.

ACB's efforts to form a domestic structure in Afghanistan will boost the budding talent opportunity. The Shpageeza Cricket League, in particular, has provided a platform for local players to compete at a high level, helping to identify and nurture talent.

Many Afghan cricketers who have played in the Shpageeza League have gone on to represent Afghanistan in international cricket.

Shpageeza Cricket League 2024 Schedule

Notably, for the 2024 editions, Shpageeza Cricket League's window has been reduced to two weeks. Only five teams will compete in a double round robin format from August 12 with the final scheduled for August 25.
