Shakib Al Hasan has the history of anger issues on the cricket field, and he has spurred another controversy now when he refused to play Super Over in the Global T20 Canada 2024. Shakib Al Hasan was leading Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the tournament, and had an Eliminator lined up against Toronto Nationals.

However, heavy rains forced officials to come up with an idea of deciding the game in the Super Over, which Shakib refused completely as he wanted his team to go through to the Qualifier 2 based on the team standings on the points table.

However, playing a Super Over if the rain does not allow a five-over game was within the rules, and so, Bangla Tigers refusal to accept the rules backfired and the team got eliminated from the tournament.

Shakib And Co. Not Ready To Accept Rules

The GLT20 Canada CEO Joy Bhattacharjya later reaffirmed that the rules were in place right from the start and it was in place for both Qualifier 1 and Eliminator. Bangla Tigers were also not hapy with bioundaries being shortened before the official cut-off time to remove the damaged areas out of the contention from the playing area.

Overall, Shakib Al Hasan and co. only had themselves to blame for their ouster from the tournament if the one goes by the rule-book of the tournament and it is a decision that would be a matter of debate for quite some time.
