Duleep Trophy 2024 is all set to start on 5th of September and the big news is that star players like Rohit Sharma and Virat kohli are likely to feature in the tournament.

Along with these two, other big players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan are also likely to play the tournament, and with four teams to feature in the tournament, it would be interesting to see how the teams would shape up and who will lead those.

Rohit Sharma To Not Lead In Duleep Trophy 2024?

Though Rohit Sharma is India's Test captain, it is hard to see him playing more than one game, and with eye on future, selectors might go with relatively young players as captains. The format of Duleep Trophy has also been changed this season with Zonal teams done away with and India A, India B, India C, India D to be the four teams in the competition.

Let's now analyse who will lead these teams -

Shubman Gill To Lead India A

Shubman Gill is the vice-captain of the Indian Test side and is most likely to lead India A. BCCI is grooming him as the next captain across formats and leading a star-studded team in Duleep Trophy would be a great experience for the young cricketer.

KL Rahul To Lead India B

KL Rahul has led India in Test cricket in past, and would be an ideal choice for leading a team in this tournament given his stature and experience. Also having Rahul as captain keeps him in the leadership mode as there could be a possibility of him taking over Test captaincy if needed.

Shreyas Iyer To Lead India C

Shreyas Iyer is another strong candidate to lead a team in the Duleep Trophy. He has shown his leadership credentials whenever he has got the opportunity for Mumbai in domestic cricket and even won the IPL as captain in the 2024 season. So, he is a natural choice as captain, and would be looking to prove a point after being axed midway during the England Test series.

Abhimanyu Easwaran To Lead India D

The Bengal skipper is an ideal choice for leading India D. He has led East Zone in the past and has the credentials both as a batter and as a leader to captain the side. Also, making him a captain of one of the side gives a great signal that BCCI is prioritising domestic performances and it would be a great opportunity for him as well personally to impress against some of the big names in Indian cricket.
