Match-Fixing Hits Rashid's Afghanistan; ICC Bans Opener For 5 Years Over Corruption

Afghanistan cricket have dealt a new blow as their top-order batter, Ihsanullah Janat, has been slapped with a five-year ban by the ICC after being found guilty of corruption charges. 

On Wednesday, August 7, ICC revealed that Ihsanullah was found guilty of corrupt practices during Kabul Premier League season 2 and will now be out of action for five years. 

"Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match. In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities,"  the ACB said in a statement. 

Three More Players Fear Suspension 

Problems do not end here for Afghanistan, as the International Cricket Council and ACB revealed that they are investigating three other players for potential corrupt activities, and a decision will be made soon. 

"Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt," the ACB said.

Ihsanullah made his international debut on February 24, 2017, against New Zealand, and has appeared in 20 games for Afghanistan across the three formats. Match against Zimbabwe in June 2022 in Harare was his last appearance for his national team.

Recently, ICC had also banned West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas for five years for breaching anti-corruption codes of Sri Lanka Cricket.
