The sixth round of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-2025 was an eyewitness to as many as 18 matches on a single day. Grouped into three different categories based on start time, there were a total of 10 matches in the morning, three in the afternoon and five in the evening.

Out of the 156 Indian cricketers set to participate in the Indian Premier League, a grand total of 83 took the field in the 15 day matches played at several venues across the nation on Tuesday. Let us go through their performances:

J&K vs Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow Super Giants batter Aryan Juyal (19), Rajasthan Royals batter Nitish Rana (0), Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh (24) and Delhi Capitals batter Sameer Rizvi (25) failed to make a mark resulting in Uttar Pradesh posting a below par 157/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first by J&K captain Paras Dogra.

While it is the fourth time in the last five innings where Rana has scored in single digits (3 or less), archetype bashers in Rinku, Rizvi and Samad didn’t really get going on the back of individual strike rates of 77.41, 96.15 and 100 respectively.

Among the bowlers, Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Rasikh Salam (1/31) and RR pacer Yudhvir Singh (0/30) bowled economical spells. Salam’s senior RCB teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/26) and Juyal’s LSG teammate Mohsin Khan (2/49) leaked runs. Mohsin’s rookie teammate, spinner Vipraj Nigam (1/31), meanwhile, bowled slightly better.

Gujarat vs Uttarakhand

Representing Uttarakhand, Royal Challengers all-rounder Swapnil Singh (8 & 0/32) couldn’t contribute in either of the two departments.

Gujarat and India spin-duo of Axar Patel (0/28) and Ravi Bishnoi (0/35), who play for DC and Super Giants respectively, failed to pick a wicket across the three and four overs they bowled for Gujarat. Patel, however, scored 28* (18) including a couple of sixes to play second-fiddle in sealing a 183-run target without much discomfort.

Bengal vs Bihar

Playing for Bengal, Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Mohammed Shami (1/18) and Lucknow all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmad (1/27) bowled economical spells to restrict Bihar for an underwhelming 147/6 in 20 overs. Opening the batting in the second innings, Capitals wicket-keeper batter Abishek Porel failed to convert his brisk start of 19 (10) consisting of four fours.

Chhattisgarh vs Vidarbha

SRH batter Atharva Taide (34) and Delhi batter Karun Nair (4), Vidarbha’s opening pair, didn’t really become a cause of concern for the opposition’s bowlers.

That said, in the middle-order, Royals batter Shubham Dubey (52*) and Bangalore wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma (38*) struck four fours and seven sixes between them. The latter, in particular, batted at a strike rate of 271.42 to power his team to a match-winning innings total of 206/5.

Although playing for the opposite side, much like Nair, his IPL teammate Ajay Mandal (0/31 & 13) also put on display an unimpressive performance. Nair’s Vidarbha and DC teammate, Darshan Nalkande, picked three wickets but leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.50 in his four overs.

One of the two players retained by the franchise before IPL 2025 auction, Punjab Kings and Chhattisgarh all-rounder Shashank Singh (3/41 & 10) also flopped. His PBKS teammate Yash Thakur, however, registered bowling figures of 4-0-29-2.

Services vs Mumbai

Veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane (22), on the brink of becoming KKR’s eighth captain, didn’t contribute significantly upon returning to the top of the order. Rahane’s Mumbai captain, Shreyas Iyer (20), on the brink of becoming Kings’ 17th captain, didn’t click either. Suryansh Shedge (1* & 0/19), Iyer’s domestic and IPL teammate, had a decent outing.

That being said, stroke-filled half-centuries by Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav (70) and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube (71*) in their first match of the tournament propelled Mumbai to a winning total of 192/4. Dube, who doesn’t bowl much in the IPL because of the Impact Player rule, also returned with bowling figures of 3-0-21-1.

RCB spinner Mohit Rathee, only player from Services to have an IPL contract at the moment, conceded 45 runs in his four overs.

Saurashtra vs Tamil Nadu

Knocked out of the tournament, Tamil Nadu’s 58-run loss witnessed neither of their many IPL players justifying their individual potential. CSK pacer Gurjapneet Singh (3/53 & 7*) and Gujarat Titans spinner Sai Kishore (1/44 & 2) picked wicket(s) but were expensive. While Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy (0/35 & 7) conceded a shade under 9 runs per over, he couldn’t dismiss any batter.

Thus, allowing Saurashtra to post a mammoth 235/5 in 20 overs after Tamil Nadu captain Shahrukh Khan (1/16 & 0), one of the five players retained by GT, won the toss and opted to field. Much like his counterparts on the day, Saurashtra captain and Sunrisers pacer Jaydev Unadkat (1/45) was also expensive.

Haryana vs Himachal Pradesh

Picking wickets in the powerplay and death overs, Haryana and Super Kings pacer Anshul Kamboj returned with game-changing bowling figures of 4-1-26-3. Speaking of his Haryana teammates, while Punjab spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (0/22) and Titans all-rounder Nishant Sindhu (0/20) bowled economical spells in a winning effort, Hyderabad pacer Harshal Patel (1/44) returned with an economy rate of 11.

Hyderabad vs Madhya Pradesh

Royal Challengers batter Rajat Patidar (36), Kolkata all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer (22 & 0/24) and MI batter Tilak Varma (46) played impact-generating cameos at individual strike rates of 225, 183.33 and 135.29 respectively.

Representing Madhya Pradesh, while LSG pacer Avesh Khan (2/31) and Rajasthan spinner Kumar Kartikeya (3/25) were among the wickets, Gujarat pacer Kulwant Khejroliya leaked 30 runs in a couple of overs.

Andhra vs Kerala

Kerala and RR captain Sanju Samson (7) failed for the third time in the competition. Similarly, PBKS batters Vishnu Vinod (1) and Pyla Avinash (0) and Chennai batter Shaikh Rasheed (5) also failed. On the contrary, rookie Mumbai pacer Satyanarayana Raju (2/19) dismissed two lower-order batters.

Delhi vs Jharkhand

Having hit two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 172.72, Kings batter Priyansh Arya (38) continued to prove that he is made for the shortest format.

With Delhi and Super Giants being the common link between them, Ayush Badoni (1 & 0/29), Himmat Singh (2), Mayank Rawat (15 & 1/24) and Prince Yadav (17* & 0/23) didn’t do enough to prevent their team from a 5-wicket loss.

GT duo of Anuj Rawat (49) and Ishant Sharma (2/38) fared better for Delhi but individual strike rate and economy rate of 113.95 and 9.50 weren’t up to the mark. On the other hand, their Jharkhand teammate Kumar Kushagra’s (55*) career-best T20 knock came at a strike rate of 183.33.

As for Jharkhand, Kolkata all-rounder Anukul Roy (1/10 & 27) contributed across divisions in a winning effort. Indians wicket-keeper batter Robin Minz (12*) was batting alongside Kushagra at the time of sealing a 155-run chase in the 19th over. SRH’s costliest IPL 2025 auction pick, wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan scored 14 (20) at a strike rate of 70.

Baroda vs Karnataka

Opening the batting for Karnataka in this format after three years this season, Knight Riders batter Manish Pandey (10) couldn’t contribute for the third time in a row in this role.

Indians wicket-keeper batter Krishnan Shrijith (22) and Sunrisers batter Abhinav Manohar (56*) didn’t hit a four but hit three and six sixes respectively. Royal Challengers batter Manoj Bhandage (1 & 0/20) failed to put up a show in the slog overs. Baroda captain Krunal Pandya (2/19 & 0), his IPL teammate, bowled well but didn’t manage to score a single run. Much like his elder brother, MI captain Hardik Pandya (0) also registered a golden duck.

In spite of Chennai spinner Shreyas Gopal (18 & 4/19) sending the Pandya brothers back to the pavilion off consecutive deliveries to perform a hat-trick, Karnataka weren’t able to defend a 170-run target. A key reason behind the same was PBKS pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak’s bowling figures of 3.5-0-49-1.

Lucknow pacer Akash Singh (1/33) dismissed a batter in the first innings.

Punjab vs Rajasthan

Super Kings all-rounder Deepak Hooda (23) experienced an off day. So did Titans batter Mahipal Lomror (15), Sunrisers all-rounder Abhishek Sharma (0/15 & 0), MI all-rounder Naman Dhir (0/16 & 18), Kings all-rounder Harpreet Brar (1/28) and batter Nehal Wadhera (18) and Gujarat spinner Manav Suthar (0/22).

Among players who performed well in this match were MI pacer Deepak Chahar (12 & 2/30), CSK pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti (1/26), SRH spinner Rahul Chahar (1/33), PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh (2/32) and wicket-keeper batter Prabhsimran Singh (62) and KKR spinner Mayank Markande (1/21) and all-rounder Ramandeep Singh (0/4 & 7*).
