Mohammed Shami, the veteran Indian pacer's comeback to the Indian team has hit another setback as Times of India in its report has stated that BCCI has no plans to send the bowler to Australia as of now. Shami recently made his comeback to competitive cricket after a year-long injury layoff, and impressed straightaway with a seven-wicket haul in a Ranji match.
His performance and the number of overs he bowled in that game, raised hopes of his inclusion in the Indian squad for BGT. Indian skipper for the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah also mentioned in his press conference that the team management is in talk with Shami and all stakeholders concerned, and their are chances that he might be added to the Indian team.
Shami Unlikely To Be Rushed For BGT After India's Win
However, now a source in the BCCI has told Times of India that there has been no conversation around Shami's inclusion in BGT and the board is currently happy with how the bowlers in the present squad are shaping up in the series.
"There has been no conversation around trying to send Shami to Australia, atleast for now. At the moment, the fast bowlers chosen for the tour and the first XI in the opening Test at Perth are doing their job very well," a source in BCCI told TOI.
Mohammed Shami has been included in Bengal's squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and it seems that BCCI wants to see him play more games, before they take a big decision of his addition to the BGT squad. India did brilliantly in the first Test and notched up a win for the ages with a margin of 295 runs and the visitors bowled superbly in both the innings, knocking over Aussies for 104 and 238 in the first and second innings respectively.
Jasprit Bumrah led from the front with the ball and in the second Test, India will have Rohit Sharma back as captain while there is still doubt over participation of Shubman Gill. The second Test starts on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval and it is a day-night affair.
