Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against India starting July 27.

The selectors have included explosive batter Shimron Hetmyer, who had a phenomenal Indian Premier League (IPL) season, slamming 299 runs. Hetmyer last played an ODI for Windies in 2021 and since has been out of the T20Is as well.

All-rounder Jason Holder and former skipper Nicholas Pooran remain unavailable for selection, with wicket-keeper batter Shai Hope donning the captaincy hat. Pacer Oshane Thomas also makes a return to the side, along with others like Jayden Seales, Yannic Cariah, and Gudakesh Motie. Fast bowler Keemo Paul misses out due to an injury.

In a statement, chief selector and former WI legend Desmond Haynes welcomed both Thomas and Hetmyer back into the squad.

Here's what Haynes said

"We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up. Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential finisher."

The first ODI will be played in Barbados, which will also host the second encounter on July 29, before action moves to Trinidad for the third and final match on August 1.
