Andhra Pradesh players have turned out in solidarity for Hanuma Vihari to continue as the captain of their state team.

In a letter to the President, Secretary, and CEO of the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association (ACA), the players have vouched for Vihari’s behaviour towards the young player, adding that the kind of language used by the out-of-favour India batter has been long in use in their dressing room.

Following up on his decision to quit ACA, Vihari shared the letter, which said, We all players have been witnesses to it, and we want Vihari to continue as our captain. Since we have no issues with him and he always brought the best out of us, you can see the team has done very well, united under his leadership, and qualified more than 7 times under his leadership. Sir, this Ranji season means a lot to us as players, and we have also started the tournament with a win against Bengal.”

“As Andhra Ranji players, we want Vihari to lead our side”.

The letter has been signed by 15 members of the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team, including Ricky Bhui, who took over the captaincy reigns from Vihari after he quit the side.

For those unfamiliar, the entire incident unfolded after Vihari was involved in an incident with a young player, who was the 17th member of the squad. It is reported that Vihari directed his anger towards the young player, leading to a complaint from his father, who is an influential figure in Tirupati.

Meanwhile, Vihari confirmed that he had reprimanded the player but denied making any personal remarks against him. Incidentally, Vihari is also considered an outsider because his roots belong to Hyderabad.

Vihari has been the captain of Andhra in all the seasons before this. He has appeared in 37 matches and is one of the 10 batters on the state team to score more than 2000 runs.
