'If Not You, Then Who?' - Shubman Gill Repays Rahul Dravid’s Faith With Gritty Knock In Ranchi

Rising India batter Shubman Gill repaid the faith shown in him by Team India head coach Rahul Dravid in the Ranchi Test on Monday. The young sensation proved that class is permanent with his gritty 52-run knock off 124 deliveries with no boundaries.

Thanks to the class shown by Gill and the batting brilliance of Dhruv Jurel, Team India clinched a five-wicket win over England in the Ranchi Test to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-Test series.

Following his batting masterclass, Gill shared some words of wisdom by Team India coach, which helped him shape his innings.

Quoting Dravid in his latest Instagram post, Gill wrote, “If not you, then who? If not now, then when?”

Gill struggled to find consistency in 2024 after becoming the first batter to accumulate 2000 runs in international cricket last year. He endured plenty of criticism before returning to form. His place in the Indian Test side was under threat, but in all likelihood, the absence of Virat Kohli and the injury to KL Rahul gave him a longer rope to survive in the squad.

The Punjab native took the chance with both hands as he has notched up the 34, 104, 0, 91, 38, 52* scores in his last few innings to regain consistency. He has already amassed 342 runs in the ongoing five-Test series and will be looking to end the series on a high in the final Test in Dharamshala, starting March 7

The 24-year-old has featured in 24 Tests for India after making his debut against Australia in Melbourne in 2020. In these matches, he has accumulated 1382 runs with three hundred and six half-centuries to his name. He has the highest score of 128 runs in this format.
