Team India's batter Suryakumar Yadav took center stage as he danced his heart out during a celebratory welcome at the ITC Maurya Hotel in Delhi on Thursday morning. The Indian squad had traveled on a special Air India chartered flight arranged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Air India renamed the flight 'AIC24WC' to honor the Men in Blue's T20 World Cup 2024 victory. The flight departed from Barbados on Wednesday afternoon and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport early Thursday after the team was stranded in Barbados for three days due to Hurricane Beryl.
The BCCI confirmed the arrival of Team India at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Thursday morning, July 4.
After being delayed by Hurricane ‘Beryl’ in Barbados, Team India finally returned home with the T20 World Cup trophy. They received a hero's welcome at the airport and later at the hotel. A video going viral shows Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal dancing joyfully outside the hotel, where players were greeted with cheers and applause.
This win is a big moment for the team and the entire country as they ended their 17-year T20 World Cup title drought. The previous win was in the inaugural tournament in 2007, where they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
Indian players have left Mumbai for a road show from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium after having breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There, they will place the prestigious T20 World Cup trophy at the BCCI headquarters.
