The South African cricket team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram earlier this week for their World Cup 2023 warm-up fixtures. While their planned outing against Afghanistan was washed out due to rains at the city's iconic Greenfield International Stadium, they are now slated to go up against New Zealand at the same venue on October 2.

As they wait out for their imminent warm-up outing, several South African players recently engaged themselves in a fun activity, one that requires them to correctly pronounce the name of the city they are currently settled in, Thiruvananthapuram.

SA players try and fail to pronounce their warm-up base

In a hilarious video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), several South African cricketers can be seen attempting to correctly pronounce the name of the city they are currently settled in for their World Cup 2023 warm-up fixtures, Thiruvananthapuram.

David Miller, captain Temba Bavuma and Heinrich Klaasen, among several others, failed to pronounce the name, thus inciting much laughter among their teammates. Moreover, Klaasen even gave up on his attempts and hilariously stated that he prefers the city's other name, Trivandrum.

On the other hand, South African cricketers with Indian ancestry, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, correctly pronounced the name, and so did the team's ace speedster, Kagiso Rabada, much to everybody's surprise.

South Africa's pronunciation struggles will not last long, considering they are slated to travel to Delhi for their opening World Cup 2023 match. They will face Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and their much-awaited bout will be played on October 7.
