South African captain Temba Bavuma believes that since he started performing well, the team's atmosphere has been positive and free of negativity or trauma. He emphasized that the team has been discussing the importance of playing fearless cricket and seizing crucial moments.

Reflecting on the team's recent performance, Bavuma stated,"If I look back now, since that day things have been going well for myself but also for the team. I was laughing about it. There's no negative emotions or trauma coming back here."

"The way we've been going about our business this year, it has been in contrast to what people have known us as a team. We spoke a lot about being bold, being fearless, being positive and always looking for moments to move the game in our favour," Bavuma added.

Before South Africa's World Cup campaign began, Bavuma had to briefly return home due to family reasons, causing him to miss the warm-up fixtures. However, head coach Rob Walter expects him to rejoin the squad in time for the first match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on October 7.

South Africa have faced injury setbacks with prominent pacers Sisanda Magala and Anrich Nortje ruled out of the World Cup due to injuries. Nortje is dealing with a suspected back stress fracture, while Magala has a left knee injury. To compensate, Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams were brought in as replacements.

Despite these early challenges, under Bavuma's leadership, the South African team appears formidable, with strong options in both bowling and batting. Their morale received a significant boost after winning a closely contested five-match ODI series against the five-time World Cup champions, Australia, at home. This victory followed two initial losses in the series.

While many may not have high expectations for the Proteas in the ODI World Cup, they aim to overcome the "chokers" label and make a strong bid for the trophy.
