Burgeoning Indian batsman Sanju Samson recently expanded his ODI profile by smacking a match-winning 108 against South Africa at Paarl. After headlining India’s series win in the rainbow nation, the cricketer was recently spotted playing a game of football at a local field in India.

Samson, who adopted cricket as his primary profession, is also a son of a former Indian football player.

Interestingly, the 29-year-old dashing wicketkeeper-batsman is the son of Samson Viswanath, who previously represented Delhi in India’s prestigious annual inter-state football competition, the Santosh Trophy.

Earlier in December, Sanju Samson blasted 108 runs from just 114 balls to propel India towards a competitive 296-run total against South Africa in the series-deciding third ODI at Paarl. He belted six boundaries and three sixes in the innings, and led India’s recovery with KL Rahul and Tilak Varma after his side had slumped to 49-2 at one stage of the contest.

Samson’s knock marked his maiden ODI century, and also set up India’s emphatic 78-run series-winning triumph at the Boland Park.

The prodigious batting talent will soon return to mainstream cricketing action through the forthcoming IPL 2024 season. In November 2023, the Kerala-based cricketer was retained by the Rajasthan Royals franchise and the team management made further additions to the squad on IPL 2024 auction day in UAE in December.
