Star Indian cricketer KL Rahul has offered insights into his wife Athiya Shetty's intriguing superstitions during the World Cup 2023, shedding light on her unique game-watching rituals.

The World Cup 2023 final, inarguably the biggest cricketing event held in India, stirred immense excitement across the nation. Rahul, part of the Indian team in that final, recently disclosed that he had invited his wife Athiya to the stadium to witness the all-important match, given its significance. However, Athiya, driven by her superstitions, opted to stay at home and watch the game on television. According to Rahul, she has a designated lucky spot at home, akin to her father, Suniel Shetty, who had mentioned earlier that he watched matches while sitting on the floor.

Speaking to Star Sports, Rahul shared,

"She has a lucky spot at home. So, she wants to sit there. You know how partners can be, they have their lucky positions, their lucky seats. They want to sit there and watch it. She’ll not move when I’m batting. She has certain superstitions when I am playing."

Despite Rahul's invitation for Athiya to witness the final match at the stadium, she chose to stay home, adhering to her superstitious inclinations. Even though Athiya didn't come to watch the match, Rahul did score and scored the most for his team in arguably the biggest match of his career to date. The wicket-keeper batter scored a gritty 66 off 107 balls in the World Cup 2023 Final against Australia on Sunday, 19 November. Playing on a difficult pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rahul tried his best to guide India out of troubled waters when Australia were all over the home team in the iconic final.

Turning to Rahul's professional career, the 31-year-old cricketer encountered an injury while fielding in an IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. During the pursuit of the ball, he abruptly stopped, ultimately requiring assistance from the team's support staff to leave the field.

This injury prevented him from representing India in the World Test Championship final, where the team suffered a substantial 209-run loss against Australia.

However, Rahul made a remarkable comeback, scoring a century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Since then, he has maintained an impressive performance, leading his team to a historic ODI series victory in South Africa and securing his eighth Test hundred in Centurion during the 2023 World Cup.
