As the Indian team gears up to begin their Asia Cup 2023 journey on Saturday, all eyes are set on their much-anticipated match against Pakistan in Pallekele. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the seven-time Asia Cup champions are ready to face their long-standing rivals.

Rohit banking on India’s experience vs Pakistan's pace trio

The challenge ahead for India, however, is undeniable. Pakistan's pace attack, featuring Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf has been a significant concern for the Indian top order in the past. This was evident in the T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai, where Afridi effortlessly breached the defenses of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Similarly, in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Melbourne, Rauf and Naseem's combined efforts saw Rohit, Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav dismissed early, exposing India's vulnerability during the powerplay.

On the eve of the high-voltage encounter, Rohit addressed concerns over handling Pakistan's pace trio. In a characteristically witty remark, he noted that while India doesn’t have the likes of Shaheen, Naseem, or Rauf to practice against in the nets, they make do with the bowlers they have.

“We don’t have Shaheen, Naseem or Rauf to face in the nets. We practice with the bowlers we have,” said Rohit.

The Indian skipper further acknowledged the skills of the Pakistani bowlers, praising them for their consistent performance and highlighting that the country has a history of producing quality bowlers.

“They’re quality bowlers. All three of them and have been performing together for quite some time now. Pakistan have always had quality bowlers,” added the 36-year-old.

Pointing out the years of experience his team holds, the star batter also remarked that they have observed the strengths and weaknesses of their rivals, and the key is to apply their amassed experience in the match.

“We’ve seen their strengths and weaknesses, where they bowl and where they don’t. We’ve been playing for so many years, so we have to use that experience and play. It is as simple as that,” concluded Rohit.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is coming off the back of a thumping 238-run victory against Nepal in Multan. Their Captain, Babar Azam, and finisher Iftikhar Ahmed grabbed the headlines for their respective centuries which is an indication that their batting firepower is just as intimidating as their bowling trio.
