Babar Azam and Rohit Sharma to lead Pakistan and India at Asia Cup 2023 (Twitter)
Team India is set to launch its Asia Cup 2023 campaign with a Group A game against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2. As fans eagerly wait out for a potential thriller in Kandy, the match might well turn out to be a damp squib affair as per the latest weather updates.
Even though rains can potentially play spoilsport in Pakistan’s concluding Group A match, Wasim Akram has shared an important update regarding the Kandy weather.
Wasim Akram hopeful of a full match
Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram is hopeful of a full game between the two arch-rivals in Kandy’s Pallekele Stadium. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the legendary speedster shared latest weather updates by sharing a video from his hotel room. Akram said:
“Many people are asking me about the weather in Kandy. Where I'm staying, there's a drizzle with cloud cover. But you can see that the weather is clearing. The ground is one hour away from here. Maybe, the weather is different there.”
The cricketer-turned-commentator also shared a special message to fans from both the sides. He stated:
“All the best to both teams. And remember, it's just a match. Someone will win and someone will lose. Enjoy good cricket.”
Regardless of Wasim Akram’s optimism, weather predictions indicate that the match will indeed turn out to be a rain-affected washout. As per Accuweather, there are 84 percent chances of rains in Pallekele during day time.
