Team India demolished Pakistan in a nail-biter at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium on June 9. The outcome marked India’s second win in succession this T20 World Cup 2024, and took them to the top of the Group A points table.

Jasprit Bumrah, for his splendid match-winning figures of 3-14, was fittingly declared ‘Player of the Match’.

Shortly after the presentation ceremony, the Indian team management acknowledged wicketkeeper-batter and comeback man Rishabh Pant for pouching three sensational catches at critical junctures of the game.

As part of the dressing room celebration, Team India fielding coach T. Dilip hailed the winning members for rounding up a committed fielding effort against Pakistan.

Dilip also announced Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Arshdeep Singh as his top three contenders for bagging the ‘Best Fielder’ medal for their fielding excellence in the evening.

Former Indian head coach and active commentator Ravi Shastri soon took centre-stage and handed the medal to Rishabh Pant before commending the wicketkeeper’s efforts on the field.

Shastri also acknowledged Pant’s return to competitive cricket, after recovering from the numerous injuries he sustained during the near-fatal car accident from December 2022.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an extensive video of the dressing room celebration just few hours after India’s win over Pakistan.

Rishabh Pant pulled off an excellent backward running catch to dismiss a raging Fakhar Zaman, before diving to his right in the final over of the match to get a well-set Imad Wasim.

Moreover, Pant also snared a smart catch during the death overs to account for the early departure of Shadab Khan.

With two wins in two games, Team India stands firm at the top of the T20 World Cup 2024 Group A points table. Rohit Sharma and co. will now face tournament co-hosts USA in match number 25 of the competition on June 12.

The much-awaited contest will be staged at the same New York-based venue.
