The recent six-run loss to India in New York has left Pakistan's T20 World Cup campaign hanging by a thread. Pakistan's batting collapse had multiple critical moments that led to their inexplicable failure to chase a modest 120-run target set by an underperforming Indian batting lineup, as all of their star players faltered in New York.

With two losses in two matches, the road to the Super 8 has become exceedingly challenging, and their fate is no longer entirely in their hands. 

Like England, Pakistan must not only win their remaining games but also rely on the USA (in Group A’s case) to falter. India is set to advance regardless, leaving just one spot up for grabs, with the USA and Pakistan fighting for it.

The most straightforward path to qualification for Pakistan is to win all their remaining group matches. They must adopt a do-or-die mentality, allowing no room for error. 

Securing victories in their remaining matches will not only boost Pakistan’s points tally but also enhance their Net Run Rate (NRR), a critical factor in tournament tiebreakers.


A Tough Road Ahead For Pakistan

With just two matches left, here is how Pakistan can qualify for the T20 World Cup Super 8 round:

First and foremost, Pakistan must secure big-margin wins against Canada and Ireland. Additionally, India must win both their remaining fixtures and Ireland needs to defeat the USA.

If all five results align with this scenario, Pakistan will have four points from four matches, while India will accumulate eight points. The USA will finish their group-stage campaign with the same points as Pakistan, while Canada and Ireland will each have two points.

In the above-mentioned scenario, India will directly qualify for the Super Eight, while both Pakistan and the USA will end up with four points each. 

This means the Net Run Rate will become the deciding factor. Pakistan must step up their game, focusing on what they can control and leaving the rest to chance. 

They overcame adversity after being defeated by Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2022 and still made it to the final. There's no reason they can't do it again, although the road ahead is undoubtedly challenging for the Men in Green.
