[Watch] Fans Display ‘Release Imran Khan’ Aircraft Message During IND Vs PAK T20 WC Match

An aircraft carrying the message ‘Release Imran Khan’ was spotted above the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium during India’s 2024 T20 World Cup Group A match against Pakistan at the New York-based venue.

It is to be noted that former Pakistan captain and ex-PM Imran Khan was handed a 10-year jail sentence back in January 2024 by the Pakistan government for violating the Official Secrets Act.

Fans demand Imran Khan release during IND vs PAK

Former Pakistan Prime Minister and country’s 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan was sentenced to 10 years in jail back in January this year for violating the Official Secrets Act. The cricketer-turned-politician was indicted for allegedly disclosing a secret diplomatic cable (cipher) sent by the country’s embassy in March 2023.

Ever since Imran Khan was sent to jail by the authorities, there has been a widespread demand among Pakistani public calling for his release. Fans of the ex-PM even made their voices heard during Pakistan’s high-profile 2024 T20 World Cup clash against India in New York on June 9, where an aircraft was spotted carrying the message ‘Release Imran Khan’ above the Nassau County Stadium.

On the cricketing front, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to field first after multiple rain interruptions. In a close-fought contest, India prevailed by the barest of margins (6 runs).
