Veteran Indian cricketer VVS Laxman celebrated his 49th birthday at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He cut his birthday cake with Indian cricketers Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and a few members of the NCA staff.

The ‘Very Very Special’ Laxman is known for standing tall for India in dire situations whenever the team needed him the most. The legendary batter has played some iconic innings especially against the mighty Aussies during their invincible era.

Laxman, who made his international debut for India back in 1996, made his first huge stride when he played one of the all time great innings of 281 runs against Australia in 2001 at the Eden Gardens. He went on to torment Australia like no other and was one of the biggest reasons behind some of India’s biggest wins against Australia back then.

The wristy right-handed batter had an impressive Test career, scoring 8781 runs from 134 Test matches at an average of 45.97 and has 17 centuries and 56 half-centuries. Moreover, in a total of 86 one day internationals, Laxman amassed 2338 runs, six centuries, and ten half centuries at an average of 30.76.

The Hyderabad-born cricketer turned 49 on Wednesday, November 1st and just like the way we get to see birthday celebrations in team India’s dressing room, Pant followed the same tradition and smeared the cake all over Laxman’s face. The video of Laxman’s birthday celebration was uploaded by Pant in his Instagram handle.

Notably, Laxman is currently serving as the Head of Cricket at National Cricket Academy (NCA), and the head coach of India A and India U19 teams. Meanwhile, Pant is under rehabilitation after an unfortunate car accident in December last year. He is making smooth progress in his recovery and is expected to be back on the field soon.

Axar, on the other side, is back at the NCA for further recovery from his injury after playing a couple of domestic T20s for his state team Gujarat in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last week. The left-arm spin all-rounder is expected to recover and get back into action for team India in the T20I series against Australia right after the World Cup.
