Quinton de Kock blasted his fourth century of the 2023 World Cup by taking New Zealand to the cleaners in Pune. Opening the innings for South Africa, the cricketer punched out 10 boundaries and three sixes and raked in 114 runs for his side in a near run-a-ball effort.

The elegant left-hander led South Africa’s recovery upon losing captain Temba Bavuma early, by forming a rapid 200-run second-wicket partnership with fellow centurion Rassie van der Dussen.

Notably, through the course of his knock, Quinton de Kock managed to scale a huge all-time world record among wicketkeepers, upstaging Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara in the process.

Quinton de Kock, who did not have a single World Cup century to his name prior to the launch of the ongoing edition, has now listed four in a space of a month in India. After plundering match-winning hundreds against Sri Lanka, Australia and Bangladesh, the cricketer has now bludgeoned 114 against New Zealand in Pune.

Through the course of his knock, Quinton managed to soar past former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara for a huge World Cup record. The dashing opener is now a recipient of scoring most runs in a single World Cup edition among wicketkeepers, toppling Sangakkara and his batting blitzkriegs in the 2015 event.

While the Sri Lankan legend had amassed 541 runs in seven matches for his country in 2015, Quinton de Kock has charted 545 runs to his name in the 2023 edition, holding a staggering average of 77.85.

The Proteas batting legend, set to retire from ODIs following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, is also currently leading the run-scoring race among all batters in the ongoing competition. David Warner with 413 runs to his name is placed a distant second on the celebrated batting list.
