Captain Rohit Sharma and his Indian troops trounced defending champions England by 100 runs in Lucknow to register their sixth successive win in the ongoing 2023 World Cup. Having solidified their position at the top of the points table, the ‘Men in Blue’ took subsequent flight to Mumbai as they brace themselves to face Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on November 2.

A day prior to their much-awaited clash, the Indian skipper said that he is wary of the consequences he will have to face upon tasting a defeat at some point of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma wary of “one bad game”

The Indian team, under Rohit Sharma, has outclassed Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in successful run-chases to make it five wins out of their first five World Cup 2023 fixtures. The ‘Men in Blue’ found themselves in a slightly unfamiliar territory when they were asked to bat first by England.

However, captain Sharma led from the front with an imperial 87-run knock, before speedsters completed the demolition job to script India’s sixth win in a row in the tournament.

As the Indian skipper continues to draw adulations from all corners of the cricketing fraternity, he recently claimed that he is very well aware of the consequences he will have to face if the team loses a game at any point. The batting legend stated that he will be labelled as a “bad captain” all of a sudden by critics as well as by his fans, despite having formed a string of impressive victories on his back up to this point.

Speaking with the reporters a day prior to India’s blockbuster World Cup 2023 showdown against Sri Lanka, he said:

“I know how this works, one bad game here and there and I will suddenly become a bad captain.”

Apart from his tactical leadership, Rohit Sharma has also performed significantly well with the bat in five of six Indian wins so far in the competition. The cricketer pounded Afghanistan with a thunderous 131-run knock, aside from slapping sparkling 80s against Pakistan and England.

Sharma also listed booming 40-plus knocks against New Zealand and Bangladesh to provide India a blazing start in the powerplay overs.
