Lahore Qalandars have retained Rashid Khan for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season in the Silver category, the lowest possible category. The Afghanistan spinner found himself among eight players to be retained by the franchise, alongside captain Shaheen Afridi and fellow top performers Haris Rauf and Sikandar Raza.

Khan was first roped in by the Qalandars' management ahead of the 2021 season of the tournament and has remained an integral member of the team's composition since then.

Prior to PSL 2022, Lahore Qalandars COO Sameen Rana promised that the franchise would always retain Rashid Khan in any category possible every time.

Rashid Khan’s old claim for Lahore Qalandars goes viral

After receiving a guaranteed spot in the Lahore Qalandars unit for every PSL season, Rashid Khan responded that he would make himself available even in the lowest possible category if Sameen Rana picked him. In a 2022 video recently re-surfaced on social media, the Afghanistan all-rounder can be seen saying:

“If he [Sameen Rana] picks me in the lowest category, I will make sure that I am available in that category.”

Late last month, Rashid Khan underwent surgery for his back injury in London, mere weeks after representing Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup in India. While he continues to attain full recovery, the cricketer has opted himself out of the ongoing 2023-24 Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.

Khan was among the eight retentions made by Lahore Qalandars for next year's PSL 2024 season. Here is a list of all players retained by them ahead of the PSL 2024 draft:

Shaheen Shah Afridi (Platinum), Haris Rauf (Brand Ambassador) and David Wiese (both Diamond), Sikandar Raza, Abdullah Shafique and Zaman Khan (all Gold), Mirza Tahir Baig (Successful relegation request) and Rashid Khan (both Silver)
