Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades walked away with a point each during their latest BBL 2023-24 showdown at Geelong’s Kardinia Park. After Renegades skipper Nic Maddinson won the toss and opted to field first, the match was called off owing to “unsafe” playing conditions.

Only 6.5 overs were bowled out in the evening before match officials called off the proceedings in match number four of the tournament. Maddinson’s teammate and fellow Renegades senior member Aaron Finch addressed the pitch during the closing stages of the contest, where he backed the decision to call off the game.

Aaron Finch acknowledges uneven Geelong bounce

The BBL 2023-24 match between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades on December 10 was called off owing to unsafe playing conditions. The pitch generated an uneven bounce throughout the Scorchers’ short innings, thus prompting the match officials to make the decision, citing the safety of players from both camps.

Explosive Renegades batsman Aaron Finch backed the decision and acknowledged the potential dangers of the delivery Josh Inglis received in the seventh over of the match, the one which gripped the seam and bounced away from the batsman. Finch added that the pitch would have been difficult to adjust for batters if such deliveries had straightened up towards the body instead.
