Ex-Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has praised the emerging talent Rinku Singh for his standout performance in the recent five-match T20I series against Australia and expressed confidence in his abilities for the upcoming challenge in South Africa.

In the recent series against Australia, the Southpaw has established himself as India's reliable finisher, at least in the shortest format of the game, shining in critical situations.

After turning heads in the quickest version of the game, Rinku Singh has also secured his maiden ODI call-up for India in the upcoming South Africa series. As for T20Is, he will once again play the role of a finisher against Proteas in the testing conditions of South Africa.

Weighing in on Rinku Singh and his gameplay, here's what the cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan told Star Sports:

“I think he will enjoy the bounce and pace of the ball because he is the kind of cricketer who likes to face fast bowling. I really think he is a guy who is ready. Especially being a left-hander and especially being a free-flowing player will help.”

He Knows How To Grab Chances: Irfan Pathan On Rinku Singh

The former Indian all-rounder further shed light on the grind and struggle the Uttar Pradesh batter underwent in domestic cricket, showcasing the perseverance that brought him to the current stage of his cricketing career.

“He is extremely impressive. When a guy has done the hard yards in domestic cricket and waited for his chance to come good in the IPL, that means he has got a lot of experience. He knows how to take those chances, that will come his way, with both hands.”

“We are seeing him getting results lately, he is playing for the Indian team and finished a very good game for the Indian team recently, and his name has been doing the rounds for the last little while, but don’t forget that he has been playing first-class cricket and List A cricket for many years.”

Rinku Singh was the talk of the town in the recent IPL season, smashing 474 runs with an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.52 in 14 innings. He hogged all the limelight after blasting five consecutive sixes in the final over of an IPL match against Gujarat Titans, clinching victory from the jaws of defeat for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
