Mohammad Shami is intent on proving he is no mug with the bat in hand when he returns to take the field for India in the latter part of the five-match Test series against England. The experienced Indian seamer, who is recovering from a heel injury, was seen slogging the ball out during a net session.

In a video shared by the senior cricketer on his Instagram handle, Shami indulged in some delightful strokes. The aggressive lower-order right-hander smashed it over mid-off, played an adventurous reverse sweep, and also drove and flicked the deliveries he faced.

Accompanying the clip with a heartening caption, the fast bowler laid bare his resolve to work hard on his game by stating, "Hard work always pays off, whatever you do."

Shami Working Hard On His Batting

Shami may not be rated highly for his batting, but the Bengal seamer has time and again showcased his attacking streak at the crease and given the ball a full monte.

While he averages merely 12 as a batter in Test cricket, the 33-year-old's CV features two half-centuries in challenging conditions in England.

One of which transformed India's fortunes in the Lord's 2021 Test and helped Virat Kohli's men come out triumphant.

Shami is currently in rehab for a heel injury, which he sustained through his epic run with the ball during the ICC World Cup 2023 played in October-November. The veteran pacer bagged an astonishing 24 scalps in just seven outings.

He has since missed the playing action but had one of the proudest moments of his career when he was awarded the 'Arjuna Award' for his great performances during the World Cup.

Shami, who was rested for the T20I series at home versus Australia and the white-ball leg of the trip to South Africa, missed the Tests against the Proteas with his injury and was forced out of the first two Tests of the series against England as well.

He could be eyeing a return via the third Test of the series in Rajkot, starting February 15.
