As Indian cricket celebrates the third anniversary of its greatest-ever Test series win in Australia, the name of young Shubman Gill shall also reverberate around loud amidst the fanfare and accolades that we reserve for Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant since the famed Gabba 2021 win.

While Pujara and Pant deservingly hog the limelight for India's remarkable run-chase to breach the Australian fortress, we tend to forget it was the elegant right-hander from Punjab, playing his first Test series, who set up the quest to hunt down an imposing 328-run target.

After India lost the early wicket of experienced Rohit Sharma, Gill batted with great command and skill, exhibiting maturity and temperament beyond his years. The then 21-year-old played his magnum opus knock of 91, still considered one of the finest efforts by a young Indian player in overseas conditions.

When Gill Smashed 91 At The Gabba

Gill has made two centuries in his young Test career for India since but his terrific 90-odd in the high-intense run-chase at the Gabba is still rated as his best effort for the country. The aggressive player batted without feeling bogged down by the challenging conditions and the intimidating Australian pace battery.

He relished the steep bounce and pace available off the surface and unleashed some of the most delightful strokes during a critical second-wicket stand with the stoic Pujara.

The duo shared a partnership of 114 runs to take the game back to the Aussies, who would've expected to build inroads into the visiting line-up. Later in the day, Rishabh Pant - with his unbeaten 89 - become the hero at the Gabba, Brisbane.

Gill spent 208 minutes at the crease for his 146-ball epic and laid the perfect foundation for fellow aggressor Pant to walk in and take center stage.

A century in a successful overseas run-chase would've been the cherry on the cake for what was a tremendous first series for the batter but he would've taken immense satisfaction with a major contribution in the nation's biggest triumphant.
