The SA20 2024 season is in full swing and match 12 will see Durban Super Giants square off against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Kingsmead, Durban on the first first game of doubleheader Saturday. The action is slated to begin at 5:00 PM IST.

The Super Giants are currently positioned second in the points table with 13 points from four matches. They have won three games and lost one of them. After a hat-trick of wins, they suffered a defeat against the Pretoria Capitals. Meanwhile, the defending champions initiated their campaign on a poor tone but seems to be finding their groove now. They are positioned third in the points table with six points from three matches. Sunrisers have won a game and their first game was a rain-washed affair.

DSG vs SEC, Match-12- Toss Factor

The surface at Kingsmead is well suited to the pacers. Runs come quickly for the teams batting first and the wicket tends to get trickier as the game progresses. The spinners get decent assistance but it's the pace and bounce of the seamers that seem more challenging.

Scenario: If Durban Super Charges field first

The DSG have a fascinating batting line with the likes of Quinton de Kock, JJ Smuts, Heinrich Klaasen, Matthew Breetzke, Dwaine Pretorius, etc. Also, Marcus Stoinis has replaced Nicholas Pooran and have all the ingredients to chase tricky totals. They also have the bowling attack to restrict the opposition to lower totals.

The Eastern Cape are dependent on a few players who are real game-changers of white ball cricket. The likes of Aiden Markram, Adam Rossington, Marco Jansen can turn the tide of a match with their capability on any given day.

Heinrich Klaasen (DSG): The South African wicketkeeper is a beast of the game and has already notched up four tons in the past season. He started off the SA20 campaign with a boom and has stockpiled 163 runs from four innings. With eleven sixes under his name, he is leading the chart in the ball whacking competition among both teams. He is a very good batter against both pace and spin as well.

Aiden Markram (SEC): The South African white ball captain displayed enough grit in the last season to steer the side to a championship reign. Markram is as good a batter against pace as he is against spin. When it comes to setting a good total, he has the tendency to read situations well and act accordingly. He can also roll his arm and spray some off-breaks.


Scenario: If Sunrisers Eastern Cape field first

Matthew Breetzke (DSG): The top-order batter is known for his explosive starts and can take the opposition bowlers for a tour out of the park on any given day. He has smashed eight sixes in the tournament, next best to Klaasen among his teammates. Breetzke has piled up 128 runs from four innings including some ferocious starts.

Marco Jansen( SEC): The South African all-rounder may get the best out of these conditions while bowling. Jansen’s left-arm pace with extra zip and nibble may be just enough to topple the opposition top order. Jansen has also improved with his batting skills and can use the long handle effectively.


DSG vs SEC, Match-12- High Risk, High Reward

Tristan Stubbs(SEC): The wicketkeeper-batter scored a fine fifty at the early half of the tourney but lacks lustre at times. He is one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball but lacks consistency at higher level cricket. If not kept, Stubbs can also help his side with a few overs with the ball.

Reece Topley (DSG): The English pacer is one of the emerging stars of international cricket in the last few years. Apart from his ability to talk the new ball, he can also bowl a pinpoint Yorker which makes him a good slog over bowler. Topley had a good time with the ba during the 2023 Cricket World Cup and continued his form here by scalping seven wickets from four games.
