A huge controversy has once again reared its ugly head in Pakistan cricket. Ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final, a verbal battle between Multan Sultans' manager and journalists started a dispute, resulting in the media personnel walking out of the press conference.

Outrage in PSL as journalists and Multan manager clash

This episode unfolded in the media room during the pre-final press conference, where words became the weapons of choice.

The arrival of Multan Sultans' head coach, Abdul Rehman, instead of captain Mohammad Rizwan or a senior player, ignited the fuse of discontent among the gathered journalists.

Their demand for a star presence was dismissed by the team manager in a rather disrespectful manner, sparking a verbal tussle.

"Jo nahin baithna chahta, woh nahin baithe. Koi issue nahin hai. (If anyone doesn't want to attend the press conference, they can leave. No issues)," said the media manager in a video that has now gone viral on social media.

Several journalists chose to vote with their feet, staging a walkout in a bold protest against what they perceived as blatant disrespect. This debacle added fuel to the fire already surrounding the PSL 2024.

It is not the first controversy in the ongoing tournament. The National Stadium recently faced the music for its empty stands, particularly during Islamabad's victory over Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator 2. Critics and fans alike lamented the dismal attendance.

Meanwhile, amidst this turmoil, both Multan Sultans and Islamabad United stand at opposite ends of the spectrum. Islamabad United, the dark horse, is galloping towards its third PSL final, with a track record of seizing the crown in both their previous appearances in 2016 and 2018.

On the other hand, Multan Sultans, no strangers to the grand stage, are marking their fourth consecutive final appearance, having clinched the title in 2021 and finishing as the runners-up in the subsequent years.
