The Asia Cup 2023 final between India and tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka went underway after a brief rain-induced delay in Colombo on September 17. Before Mohammed Siraj enthralled one-and-all by scything through the Sri Lankan line-up, his teammate Kuldeep Yadav amused fans from both sides with a hilarious slip-up during the break.

Kuldeep Yadav takes a hit on face at team dugout

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from India’s playing XI for their dead-rubber Super Four tie against Bangladesh. The cricketer returned to the line-up for the grand finale, fresh from his twin match-winning bursts against Pakistan and Sri Lanka earlier this week.

At a time when players from both camps were waiting for the commencement of the final amidst rain-break, Yadav was seen having a seemingly hilarious chat with one of the support staff members from the Indian team.

Moments later into their conversation, the two were greeted by an inbound ball, presumably thrown by one of their own teammates for a customary catching session. While both failed to gather the ball cleanly, the incoming projectile struck a relaxed Kuldeep Yadav on his face.

As it turned out, nothing serious occurred from the incident as a fit Yadav was seen taking the field against Sri Lanka in their quest for the Asia Cup 2023 title.

The spinner, however, was reduced to a mere spectator on the field as he basked on the glory of his teammate Mohammed Siraj’s sublime new-ball gambit. The speedster claimed six wickets in his short spell, including four in his opening over, to finish with 6-21.

Hardik Pandya also struck thrice inside three overs to fold up Sri Lanka for just 50 in 15.2 overs and India finished off the run-chase in just 37 balls to win their 8th Asia Cup title.
