It goes without saying that the ongoing Asia Cup edition has been at the forefront of endless rain controversy. Nearly all of the Asia Cup fixtures especially the Super 4 fixtures on Sri Lankan soil have been heavily impacted by heavy rainfall. Kandy and Colombo are the main venues that have seen significant rainfall in recent days. Needless to say, the looming threat of rain has resulted in a growing sense of discontent amongst many fans.

Amidst the ongoing threat of rain, the match officials in tandem with the ACC have done their best to ensure that all the games conclude with a result. The tournament organizers had to encounter numerous challenges to keep the tournament up and running and they achieved it by adding several provisions such as rain-induced DLS equations and reserve days.

However, in such a scenario, the contribution of the curators and the ground staff is often overlooked in the grand scheme of things. In view of recent developments, the secretary of BCCI Jay Shah lauded the curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy stadiums for their thankless work on getting the ground fit for play in unfavorable conditions. In addition to his compliments, he also announced prize money of USD 50,000 to honor their sheer dedication in such difficult times.

Here's What Jay Shah said:

He further emphasized that the ground authorities have played a crucial role in making the 2023 Asia Cup an immense success. From pitch perfection to lush outfields, the ground authorities addressed every single aspect to ensure that play progressed smoothly despite recurring rain interruptions.

The rain threat also looms large over the Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka that is currently being played at the Premadasa Stadium. ACC have added a reserve day to force a result should rain terminate the entire day’s play on the first day.
