Experienced Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj scripted history on Sunday, rattling Sri Lanka with an absolutely spectacular six-wicket haul in the Asia Cup final. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka's bold call to bat first under slightly overcast conditions proved to be a nightmare, as Siraj ripped through their batting lineup through an exceptional spell.

As of writing, the pacer has scalped six wickets, recording the best bowling spell against Sri Lanka in the history of Asia Cup. This is also the first-ever six-fer by a pace bowler in the history of the tournament.

Best Bowling Figures in an Asia Cup ODI vs Sri Lanka

  • Mohammed Siraj: 6/13* (will be updated once he finishes his spell)
  • Sohail Tanvir: 5/48
  • Kapil Dev: 4/31
  • Khurram Khan: 4/32
  • Irfan Pathan: 4/32
  • Saiful Islam: 4/36

After Jasprit Bumrah got rid of explosive Lankan opener Kusal Perera, Siraj began his onslaught on the hosts by scalping four wickets in a single over. While Ravindra Jadeja's stunning catch sent Pathum Nissanka packing, Sadeera Samarawickrama was trapped plumb in front of the stumps. Charith Asalanka, who played a magical knock in the previous game, departed for duck, with Dhananjaya de Silva following him soon after.

Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka was left shell-shocked, being castled by Siraj's absolute ripper. As if this wasn't enough, the lanky seamer from Hyderabad dismissed Dunith Wellalage to scalp a six-wicket haul, registering the best ODI bowling figure by an Indian against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup history. If he concedes less than 59 runs, he could end up with the best bowling spell by an Indian against Sri Lanka in the history of ODI cricket.
