Australian spinner Adam Zampa, who was flogged around by Heinrich Klaasen in Centurion, got his revenge in Johannesburg in the series-decider. Klaasen’s dismissal reduced South Africa to 103-4 after they were put into bat first by the visiting Australians.

Zampa gets Klaasen in remarkable turnaround

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller blasted 222 runs together in just 94 balls to catapult the South African total to 416-5 in the fourth ODI of the series at Centurion. Klaasen himself whacked a career-best 174 from just 83 deliveries, and the two batting barbarians took a special liking to Adam Zampa.

By the time Klaasen and Miller were done with Australia, Zampa had finished with 0-113 from his 10 overs to list joint-worst bowling figures in ODI history.

As it turned out, the leg-spinner walked away with the last laugh as he cleaned up the South African for just six in the subsequent series-deciding fifth ODI match in Johannesburg.

Adam Zampa, however, failed to control David Miller threat as the left-hander listed his second fifty-plus score in succession to lead South Africa’s recovery. The batting veteran arrived to the crease after Klaasen’s dismissal in the 24th over of the innings. Thereafter, Miller formed a 100-plus stand with Aiden Markram, who scored 93 from just 87 balls from his end.

The ongoing series between the two white-ball titans marks some of their final set of dress rehearsals prior to next month’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
